The Newbern Volunteer Fire Station was designed and constructed by four fifth year architecture students at Auburn University's Rural Studio. Green Bottle Workshop's co-founders Will Brothers and Matthew Finley along with Elizabeth Ellington and Leia Price completed the 4,000 sqft structure in the summer of 2005. It houses three fire trucks and satisfies the town's needs for a place to hold elections, council meetings, volunteer firefighter classes, fund-raising events and community gatherings. The building fuses the Southern vernacular barn with modern detailing, building techniques and materials.
